Nets Will Contact Phil Jackson
The Brooklyn Nets plan to gauge the interest of Phil Jackson in becoming the team’s next head coach, according to a report by Marc Stein of ESPN on Thursday afternoon.
Brooklyn relieved Avery Johnson of his head coaching duties on Thursday. The team currently sits in third place in the Atlantic Division with a 14-14 record, which team owner Mikhail Prokhorov is displeased with.
The decision to fire Johnson reportedly came directly from Prokhorov and was something that he had been considering throughout December.
Citing a source, Stein reports that the Nets plan to engage in a broad search for their next head coach, which will include an inquiry to Jackson’s level of interest. Jackson last coached during the 2010-11 season with the Los Angeles Lakers.
