Charlotte, NC - According to a report from HoopsRumors.com, the Charlotte Bobcats are trying to convince the Milwaukee Bucks to accept a trade that would send point guard Ramon Sessions to Milwaukee in exchange for bench scorer Gary Neal. The Bobcats have been one of the teams in the forefront of the Gary Neal trade discussions, and appear to be the number one team interested in acquiring his services. With the trade deadline just under six hours away, the two sides will have to work together quickly to scrape together a deal.
The Bobcats are looking to bring in another scorer off of their bench, and Gary Neal would fit that bill perfectly. He is averaging 10.0 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game, but has had to put up those numbers in extremely inconsistent playing time. Neal proved last season with the San Antonio Spurs that he can be a key player on a team that can compete for an NBA championship, and the Bobcats feel that they have a very good team put together that can compete with the Heat and Pacers with another move or two.
Ramon Sessions has played in 55 games with the Bobcats this season, starting seven of those appearances. He has averaged 10.5 points, 3.7 assists, and 2.1 rebounds per game, and would be a nice backup point guard to Brandon Knight for the Bucks. The thing that might pique the Bucks’ interest is that Sessions is on a $5 million expiring contract. Milwaukee is searching for young players, picks, and/or expiring deals that will help them sign a free agent this coming offseason.
Milwaukee is rumored to be in contact with 6-7 teams regarding a Gary Neal trade, and one of those teams has been named as the Indiana Pacers in previous reports. Numerous reports have stated that the Bucks have 3-4 trade scenarios on the table, and are only waiting for a team to decide to go forward with the move. It will be interesting to see which team decides to go ahead and pull the trigger first today.
Overall, Gary Neal is a name that most analysts believe will be moved prior to today’s 3 PM trading deadline. The Bucks want to part ways with Neal, and he is a valuable player to a contending team. Keep an ear open for these Neal to Charlotte trade talks as the day moves forward.
