According to Bill Simmons, Chris Paul threatened to sign with the Houston Rockets if the Clippers did not successfully acquire Doc Rivers.
Had Danny Ainge and the Boston Celtics refused to trade Doc Rivers to the Clippers, we could have seen one of the greatest trios in NBA history: Chris Paul, James Harden and Dwight Howard.
In order to sign with the Houston Rockets, Chris Paul may have had to take a pay cut. This would be no surprise though, since Chris Paul is a born winner and would do whatever it takes to play alongside a contending squad.
Unfortunately for Kevin McHale and the Houston Rockets, the Clippers managed to pick up Doc Rivers and his three-year, $21 million contract. They also acquired Jared Dudley and J.J. Redick via trade, and Darren Collison via free agency. Lob City is back, and stronger than ever before!
