Los Angeles, CA - According to Marc Stein of ESPN, the Los Angeles Clippers have placed small forward Jared Dudley on the trade block, and are looking to move him fairly soon. The Clippers acquired Dudley this past offseason in a trade that sent Eric Bledsoe to Phoenix, but the Clippers are unhappy with the play that they have received so far. Stein reports that the Clippers are “itchy” to make a deal, and that Dudley could be traded on or before the NBA’s trading deadline.
Dudley has played in 51 games with the Clippers this season, and has started 42 of those appearances. In those 51 games, he is averaging 7.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. One thing that Dudley does bring to the table that the Clippers do like is his defensive ability. There will be quite a few teams that show interest in acquiring Dudley simply to acquire a defensive minded player who can also shoot the three-ball.
The Clippers are certainly in a desperate mindset right now if they do decide to pull the trigger on a trade involving Dudley. Marc Stein believes that it is way too early to make a deal, but that Doc Rivers is trying to fill out his roster after the recent wing acquisitions of Hedo Turkoglu and Sasha Vujacic. It will be interesting to see what teams begin showing some interest in acquiring Dudley over the next week or two.
Overall, this is certainly a piece of news to keep an ear open for as the trading deadline approaches. The Clippers believe that they have the necessary pieces to win a championship, but they are also looking to improve their roster and nothing is off the table. There are plenty of teams around the NBA that are interested in making deals, so perhaps the Clippers will be able to find a trade partner before the deadline.
