That's an extract from an article by Sam Smith (Bulls.com) concerning the NBA draft.

Do you think that's possible?

The early consensus seems to be the Cavs select Kentucky’s athletic shot blocking big man Nerlens Noel, who is not due back from ACL surgery until December. But here’s one possible plan as Cavs owner Dan Gilbert has made it clear he expects not to return to the lottery: The Cavs trade their three other picks, Nos. 19, 31 and 33, to the Lakers for Pau Gasol, whom the Lakers need to move without taking back salary to save tens of millions of dollars of luxury tax charges. With Anderson Varejao returning to go with Gasol and Irving, Dion Waiters and Tristan Thompson the Cavs can make a run at the playoffs. Then they let go Gasol after one season as his contract expires with then enough cap room to sign both James and Chris Bosh to go with that young core.

Cavs Looking to Trade Down From #1 Overall Pick

Dan Gilbert’s son, Nick, has done it again. Two years ago, Dan send his son Nick and his bowtie to represent the Cleveland Cavaliers at the NBA Draft Lottery the year after LeBron left. And it worked. The Cavs won the #1 overall pick that year and took Kyrie Irving.

This year, same result, as the Cavs won the lottery again making it 2 of the last 3 years.

Here’s the full lottery list:

1. Cleveland Cavaliers
2. Orlando Magic
3. Washington Wizards
4. Charlotte Bobcats
5. Phoenix Suns
6. New Orleans Pelicans
7. Sacramento Kings
8. Detroit Pistons
9. Minnesota Timberwolves
10. Portland Trail Blazers
11. Phoenix Suns
12. Oklahoma City Thunder (via Houston, via Toronto)
13. Dallas Mavericks
14. Utah Jazz

However, the Cavs made trade that pick. I’d agree with that because I’m not in love with this draft. I’m not on the Nerlens Noel train (his ACL notwithstanding).

glen robinson jr and seth curry not in the 2013 nba draft

I just recently looked at mock drafts. I honestly thought robinson jr was going to be in this upcoming draft. With his level of play he can be a top 10 prospect. His teammates tre burke and hardaway were in the mock draft.

Seth curry I felt skeptical because *blue devil* players normally play 3 to 4 years before putting their name in the draft. Not all duke players ( rivers, brand, irving), but latley a lot of the best duke prospects enter the draft in their 1st or 2nd year. Curry will be a junior next season. Just wondering if anybody has news on curry if he will enter draft or not.

Phil Jackson interview on Mike and Mike

Today on Mike and Mike in the Morning on ESPN, Phil Jackson was interviewed. Below are the key points of the interview, and Phil indirectly and directly answers a few questions.

Credit to Lenny Crespo for transcribing the key points of the interview below.

'Phil Jackson just said he doesn't see himself coaching again. He followed up the statement by saying the Lakers will have no problem finding the right guys to coach the team.'

'Jackson revealed that he had cancer near the end of his coaching career with the Lakers. The reason he says he doesn't see himself coaching is because of the rigorous schedule. He doesn't think he can be active enough to coach at the level he expects. He doesn't feel the urge go back and coach or even be in management for any team.'

'Jackson also said he didn't get the job with the Lakers because of the direction people in the organization wanted to take. Jackson said the acquisition of Steve Nash was an issue. He didn't really want him in his system. Phil did like the chance to coach Howard and Gasol together.'

'Phil said people high up in the organization are very eager to try and recreate the "Showtime" Lakers. That is why they went after Nash. He said Nash was the top player in the NBA for about a season, but he isn't that guy anymore. '

'Phil started chuckling when asked his opinion of Mike D'Antoni got the Lakers coaching job instead of him. Jackson just said he laughed. GM Mitch Kupchak told Jackson D'Antoni was a better coach.'

'Jackson says leave Derrick Rose alone. He is still young. Being the franchise player, it's better for Rose to be completely healthy for several seasons, not just for a playoff run this season.'

'The key principles Jackson and Tex Winter preached on all the teams was team play. These are quotes they always used:

"No man is an island."

"The more you give, the more you get."

"If players didn't conform to that, they would have to come sit next to me on the bench,"

'When Mike & Mike asked Jackson if he would come back and coach the Lakers if Jeanie Buss took over control of the team, he didn't really answer the question. As I stated earlier, Jackson said the Lakers should have no problem finding an excellent guy for the job. He said his time coaching is over. He really enjoys his freedom and time to do other things besides basketball.'

'Jackson never said the door was closed on coming back to the Lakers. My take was that he didn't want to comment and say yes, out of respect for D'Antoni. He laughed when asked again, if he would coach if Jeanie was in charge and pleaded with him to coach Lakers. Jackson said the four games in a week would be the hardest thing on for him. He talked about his special chair and the physical demands he would face.'

' The rest of the interview was about Phil Jackson's book that was released yesterday. Jackson also talked about an incident with Dennis Rodman when he kicked the cameraman, what it was liked to coach Rodman and other superstars. '

Why is it whenever a Star studded team doesn't meet their expectations the Coach is always the one that pays the consequences?

ppl were jumping all over SPoelstra when the Heat lost in the 11 finals, Mike Brown got fired by LA after a slow start to the season, a lot of people are saying that Mike Woodson should be fired.

Also, Vinny Del Negro got fired for no real reason, he wasn't a great coach, but probably better than anyone the Clippers can get now(Unless you think Phil Jackson or Jerry Sloan will make a comeback) He led the Clippers to a pretty good seed in a stacked Western Conference and got beat by the best defensive and most complete team in the West. How's that underachieving?

Even then, the league needed time to find a buyer. You think Tom Benson ponied up $388 million for only one No. 1 pick? He’s getting at least two from Stern. The NBA showed it was committed to keeping a team in New Orleans, and for that decision to be financially viable, the Pelicans need more talent, which Stern will gladly provide.

The NBA brokers the sale of a team shortly before the lottery, and – poof – that team gets the No. 1 pick. Why do you think these sales occur this time of year? Stern sweetens the pot with a No. 1 pick.

The Pistons’ attendance has been extremely volatile in the last decade. When the team was good, the Pistons led the league in home fans. Lately, they’ve ranked near the bottom. So, the marginal value of giving Detroit the No. 1 pick is extremely high. Stern also has a habit of rewarding the new owners with the No. 1 pick, and though Tom Gores had to take a backseat to more pressing matters in Cleveland and New Orleans, he’ll finally get that No. 1 pick promised to him when he bought the Pistons in 2011.

Obama has been spotted at Wizards games before, but if those games became higher profile, Obama would probably attend more. That’s the type of cache the NBA could use as it expands globally.

Why do you think the league’s other owners put up with a rigged lottery? It’s because the “lucky” owner pays off the rest. Really, everybody wins. Allen gets his top player, and the other teams get cash for a player they didn’t deem that valuable (or else they would have bid higher). Best of all, because this income is under the table, no taxes.

Philadelphia is the largest media market in the lottery, and Sterns obviously wants his big-market teams to be better. 76ers fans can be among the league’s most-passionate – and the NBA is getting increasingly better at turning that passion into money – but this season’s malaise sucked the life out of the fan base. Nothing would get Philadelphia fans going like the No. 1 pick in the draft, and even if they boo him on draft night, at least they’ll be watching.
