Many NBA/Lakers fans were under the impression that if Phil Jackson came back Lakers had the championship in the bag and now you have D'Antonio and if he fails people and maybe even Lakers front office will be like "Damn if we had Phil we could be the best team in the league right now but now we're in ___ position" or "We could have won the Championship but instead we lost ____" basically if D'Antonio doesn't live up to Jacksons hype or make Lakers that team everyone thought Phil would make them then he's going to be in the same hot water as Mike Brown. I think it has to be weighing on D'Antonio.

They have a losing record and are the most underachieving team in the NBA so far.

The only way D'Antoni could get a bad rep for this team is if the Lakers don't make the playoffs.
Which they will.

Any coach not named Phil Jackson is in a position to fail.

I think letting go of Brown was the right thing to do.

IMO Mike D was brought on to help get Nash and Howard working in the P&R and be a players coach.

Or something like that.

Kobe and Gasol can play in any offense. Kobe is still going to look to score... because he's like a scorer n' stuff. Gasol like to be all over the court offensively and fits perfectly in that type of offense.... think of Boris Diaw x10. x7. x4? Minus x4! Hatin m@#$%^&*()! So, Pau doesn't take up space down low and allows for Howard to rumble around to the rim. Is a good target for Nash.

Or something like that.

Bummed that it isn't Phil.

Not worrying because it's D'Antoni.

Nate McMIllan for Assistant (and eventually THE) Coach!!!! :Catwoman:

He helps their offense, not their defense. But honestly after tonight's game, I'm not sure defense is their problem.

^ True.

Lakers have actually played good defense the last few games and D'Antoni is not gonna hurt them there but he should make their offense more fluid. Lakers will be a force on both sides of the court and a threat to win it all. They have already shown marked improvement in the last few games.

Sure, Mike isn't the best defensive coach out there. But the defense isn't necessairly the problem. Tonight we allowed only 84 points and made it really competitive against a top four team in the league. D'Antoni isn't a great defensive coach but it's not him playing out there. It's the players who make the defensive plays. Same thing for the offense. Sure he has the best offense in the league but it's up to the players to execute.

eh prbly but if he can go get Nate as his def cord..im pretty sure lakers have really good shot

Adding a defensive minded assistant coach did not help with defense for D'Antoni in NY, so I doubt it will help in LA either.I think D'Antoni thinks offense wins championships so he dont practice defense. With Dwight, Metta and Kobe, D'Antoni will have or should have a better defense that in the past as these guys already understand how to play defense, but still with bringing In D'Antoni the defense wont be any better than what it has been.

I dont think D'Antoni is set up to fail, he will do that all on his own, lol. Mike Brown was not a good fit in LA and neither is D'Antoni. Mike Brown is just not cut out to be a Head Coach even thou he had some success in Cleveland that was more on just having Lebron IMO. D'Antoni is just not a good Head Coach at all, he dont think defense is important and to win championships you have to be defensive minded cause that what wins. This Lakers team the way it is designed would fit Phil Jackson's system better than it does D'Antoni's. The Lakers are too talented not to make the playoffs no matter who the coach is, but all the talent in the world cant win a Championship with a incompetent Head Coach and D'Antoni is not a championship caliber Head Coach. If I was a Lakers fan I would be pretty mad right now that I could of had Phil Jackson as coach, instead of the clown they hired.
