Carmelo Anthony heard chants of “MVP” from the Madison Square Garden crowd Sunday in a victory over the Phoenix Suns and Steve Novak echoed the sentiment.

"I think the way Carmelo’s been playing (pause), I mean he’s the best player in the league right now,” said Novak while discussing New York’s 18-1 home record under coach Mike Woodson.

Anthony acknowledged the cheers from the crowd, but also tried to put them into context.

“It’s good to hear,” said Anthony. “You can’t ignore it. I’m just taking it one day at a time that’s it. That’s my mindset, I’ve been saying it, and I’m going to continue saying that.”

melo has certainly been playing great, and so have the knicks. honestly, i don't believe he is the best right now. there's just so many great players right now. i'd put KD above him probably. hes the first that comes to mind. also LBJ. but then again, its all about the teammate stuff, and with the way melo has been playing, why not.

That's what teammates are supposed to do, even if is not true.

I bet he would say the same about Lebron (eventhough he really is the best player) if he played on the Heat.

He's been playing great lately, but he's not the best right now. LeBron is. I get it though, Melo and Novak are on the same team so it's okay of him to say that. In fact, all NBA players are entitled to their own opinion. I'm sure if you ask some Celtics players they'll say that Rondo is the best in the NBA. Teammates are supposed to do this, so I don't blame Novak, but Carmelo Anthony is not the best player in the NBA. It's that simple.

KD, Kobe, Lebron and Melo have been the best players in the NBA so far this year
KD, Lebron and Melo are 1a 1 b 1 c and kobe is 2nd behind them cause of his teams horrible record

I'd say he's the #3 player in the NBA, right now. Behind LeBron and Durant.

lol just being honest, he is playing MUCH BETTER than before but he's still no where near the top player, especially after such a short run. LeBron is still the best, Durant probably 2nd and then probably Chris Paul. Honestly I'd have to say Carmelo is top 10 but I can't justify any1 saying he is the best. Still too many holes/questionable parts of his game

Unabashed shooter and teammate likes unabashed shooter and teammate for MVP.

Awesome.

Beautifully put NIck, as always lol
