Melo said in the offseason that this is his year. I really see him trying and playing D and fighting, scratching to save the ball.
Is he really gonna keep playing this year or is this just a one season thing.Melo has always criticized for his defense or lack thereof.
I am a Knicks fan and I like Melo. I would really like him to get a ring because a player of his calibre should have ATLEAST 1.Maybe seeing his close friend LeBron triggered it IDK.....What do you think???

I can agree that this season may go down as Melo's best all-around season even if the stats don't suggest so. Maturity, leadership and generally the mental aspect of a player's game doesn't show up in stats.

That being said, I don't think Melo has any real good chances of winning the MVP (ever) and I certainly don't think that he's going to win a championship (at least this season).
I've said many times before that a team led by Melo will never win a championship unless he has an all-star cast. His cast is very good and it doesn't compliment his game. For example, when you're a player who freezes many offenses by playing iso, you need many hustlers who'll go for the rebound, the lose balls etc.
Instead, he has JR Smith who's a shoot-only player, he has the oldies Rasheed and Thomas, he has Novak who just doesn't hustle etc etc. Only Chandler hustles and rebounds.

Besides, even roster-wise, the Knicks don't stand any good chances at winning the thing.

IMO.

Its more of a stomach hunger to which he went from ripped to more of a circumference throughout his career.
You never put a limit onto the Citizens.

From what I have seen of Carmelo tho year, and what I have heard from others, he has been playing defense on a much higher level than past seasons. His defense combined with magnificent scoring, makes him a top three MVP candidate so far in my opinion.

I get that he's hungry, but would he really want to eat a ring? I mean... it would taste all metallic and the diamonds would get in the way.
No but really, I do think that seeing LeBron win a championship really triggered it. The Heat beat the Knicks in the first round last year and I think that at that point, Melo woke up. After the Finals, I think he realized that LeBron, Darko (lol), and Wade all had rings, three guys that were picked in the same draft all with him within the first four picks. I think that he's had a good career, but not successful enough. To him, it seemed to be more about fun then winning. He felt that New York would be an enjoyable place to play, not win. I think that now he sees that he has a shot for a championship with the East being weaker than last year and he can really ressurect his place in the league and history. This will definitely be his best season, if he's healthy for all of it. The thing is that I don't see him winning MVP, and I don't really see him winning a Finals ring either  Only time will tell...

When I was reading your post I was like cool Teo's realized that Melo's changed. You haven't seen that Smith has changed because he's not a shoot-first player anymore.

Habits of years don't change in one summer.
Smith looks to score first. It's not that I implied that he doesn't pass at all.

And he definitely ain't a hustler which was my ultimate point.
