LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Kobe Bryant has the solution for the Lakers’ troubles: find the Fountain of Youth.
Following the Lakers’ loss to the Philadelphia Sixers on New Year’s Day, the 34-year-old superstar said the team’s recent struggles can largely be blamed on their aging roster.
“It’s because we’re old as (expletive),” Bryant said. “We just gotta figure out how to play when we don’t have that energy. We have to change things up a little bit defensively, we have to figure out what we want to do offensively.”
The loss on Tuesday dropped the Lakers to the team’s worst start after 31 games since the 2002-03 season, when the then-reigning back-to-back champs sputtered to a 12-19 start.
Bryant told ESPN Radio host Colin Cowherd that in order for the team to move forward, they must first acknowledge the problem.
“We start with the idea of knowing that we’re slow, knowing that we’re old, and then it’s figuring out…’Alright, now how do we compensate for it?’” said Bryant.
While center Dwight Howard remains the youngest star in the starting lineup at 27, he continues to struggle under coach Mike D’Antoni and his role in sharing the paint with 32-year-old Pau Gasol.
And while the roster is the fourth-oldest in the NBA, Bryant believes the Lakers can still contend for a title in June.
“We firmly believe it’s gonna happen, but we gotta do a lot of work physically to get there,” he said.

We always sign old players. In the eyes of Lakers management, Age isn't a factor. Lakers are too old and slow. Sadly.

You can never be too old and slow.

Knicks and Spurs try to play defense.

Mike D'Antoni said he wanted Lakers to average 110-115 PPG.

I wonder what the difference is

Im sorry for saying this cause i know its been said a lot but pau gasol needs to be traded.
kobe sucks at defense at times and doesnt even wanna try at all but he makes up for it on the offensive end,
pau on the other hand sucks on defense and offense, he cant create his own shot for [expletive deleted]

he needs to be traded for a solid big man and role players imo cause this isnt a championship team

d'antoni's stupid system not gonna work on the veteran teams, he had a good run with athletic suns and that's it but for kobe this system is perfect, you don't have to play defense since nobody's requiring that from you so just shoot the ball as much as you can since no other player from the team can score and always blame the others

Okay.

TGIA made me sad though. Kobe never quits. He just blames everyone else.

What the hell? the Lakers are #3 in the NBA in pace...If they're so old why not slow the game down and play half court which fits their strengths?

I blame the article for the title, if the article never existed I couldn't have posted this thread to begin with.

Because D'Antoni wants to get 110-115 PPG. D'Antoni can't coach a slow pace team that would be effective on either end of the floor
