Oh, well... I only knew him... and Tom Brady, Payton Manning which is good enough for someone like me.

Deon Sanders, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Barry Sanders and Lawrence Taylor are in the discussion.

Just wondering because my friend thinks Brett Farve is the GOAT NFL playerSo many positions, football is the ultimate team game, impossible to really label a single person the greatest of all time.
Deon Sanders, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice and Lawrence Taylor are in the discussion.

No way, and hes not even top 5 QBs. Montana, Elway, Manning, Brady, Young, Marino, and others are all better.

He's not even the GOAT at his own position.

Rice, Barry Sanders, Jim Brown, LT, Montana, Sweetness, Johnny Unitas are all good candidates. Maybe Reggie White or [expletive deleted] Butkus could be included as well.

For me I say Jerry Rice.
^^^^
This a milliont times. How no one else just came out and said it baffles me.
There is only one position where a clear cut GOAT is established
This is WR
Jerry Rice is that much better than anyone at his position, a singlehandedly helped create the legacies of Montana and Young...
I know you can throw out other GREATS but if you can't put that man as the definitive GOAT of his position he cannot be GOAT when there is a guy out there who destroyed EVERYONE at his respective spot

well Jerry averaged 5.1 catches per game for his career... and that's what makes it hard to say flat out that a guy who touched the ball 5 times a game had such an impact on the game to be the clear cut GOAT.
That's what makes having a clear cut #1 all time football player is so damned hard to define IMO.

Yes but when Jerry retired he had basically every receiving, yardage and touchdown record ever. He still holds many of them and is the only position you can put one player head and shoulders above the rest. He is on the 75th anniversary team and 2 all decade teams while being a 13X Pro Bowler and 12 time All-Pro (I don't know of anyone with comparable All-Pro status). He also came back from a torn ACL in 3 months one year to boot. He was just a freak and realistically could be argued as the most important SF player ever (over Montana and Young) and if I had an all time draft I'd take him first becasue I can get comparable value at any other position
