Dwight Howard Reported In 3-Team Trade With Lakers And Wolves
In yet another rumor, the Orlando Magic big man Dwight Howard could be sent to the Los Angeles Lakers in a route similar to the 3-team trade involving the Toronto Raptors. This time the 3rd team in talks would be the Minnesota Timberwolves.
In this new scenario reported in touted Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Dia, the Magic would obtain Lakers’ All-Star big man Andrew Bynum along with Minnesota Timberwolves’ rookie Derrick Williams, the Lakers would receive Dwight Howard from the Magic, along with Timberwolves forward Michael Beasley and guard J.J. Barea and Minnesota would obtain Lakers big man and former All-Star Pau Gasol.
The trade, while not confirmed nor refuted from any parties involved, would likely be preliminary, as the Timberwolves would be unable to trade J.J. Barea until March 1st due to his contract. The Timberwolves would also likely have to add salary considerations as they would be receiving more than the allotted salary by obtaining Gasol’s hefty contract.
The NBA trade deadline is March 15, 2012 and the Magic are exploring all their options to decide whether or not they want to risk keeping Dwight Howard this season or risk losing him to free agency in the summer. The Lakers have expressed a desire to make a move through trade before the deadline, and the Minnesota Timberwolves president of operations David Kahn declared earlier this season that while the team is willing to make a move before the deadline, he would not be participating in any blockbuster type deals. Whether or not this remains true has yet to be known.
