Boston Celtics rookie center Fab Melo has been tearing up the D-League and got recalled today. But not for the reasons one would expect, Melo reportedly got recalled by Danny Ainge and the Celtics front office to have the medical staff treat an apparent concussion.
As WEEI reports, the rookie from Syracuse suffered a concussion walking into a door with the D-League team Maine Red Claw’s (affiliated with Celtics). This is their initial report:
A strange and frustrating start to the season got a little more bizarre on Wednesday when Celtics rookie Fab Melo was brought to Boston to get examined for a concussion he says was the result of running into a hotel door while playing for the D-League Maine Red Claws.
Doc Rivers later joked about the situation with The Boston Herald: Fab Melo recently had a triple double for the aforementioned Red Claw’s and had a league leading 14 blocks.
What was it here, Manny being Manny? Well, in five years, when he’s doing great things for us, we’ll have Fab being Fab. He just got a head start, literally,” joked head coach Doc Rivers before Wednesday’s game with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Fab Melo is making a case to be recalled to the Celtics—-and for his play, not his injuries.
