Pistons Hire Stan Van Gundy


The Detroit Pistons have hired Stan Van Gundy on a $35 million, five-year agreement.

Stan Van Gundy   The Detroit Pistons and Brandon Jennings are both interested in acquiring Stan Van Gundy as their new head coach. Jennings showed his support for Stan Van Gundy by tweeting, “I’ve always like Stan Van Gundy.” The Detroit Pistons are also offering “full control” of basketball operations, according to Woj/Yahoo!

Detroit and Van Gundy are discussing a deal centered on five years and $35 million for him to become president and coach, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Stan Van Gundy has experience with stars like Dwyane Wade, Dwight Howard, Eddie Jones, and more. Van Gundy began his coaching career as an Assistant Coach for the Miami Heat and Pat Riley. He eventually took over as head coach for Pat Riley and spent a total of twelve years with the organization.

Van Gundy was also a head coach of the Orlando Magic, where he had 52 wins in his debut. Van Gundy led the Magic to an Eastern Conference championship, but lost to the Lakers in the ’09. Things got shaky after Dwight Howard asked Orlando to fire Stan Van Gundy, and his tenure in Orlando came to an end.
