It was reported earlier today by the LA Times that the Lakers were 95% certain that Phil Jackson was going to replace the suddenly vacant position of Lakers head coach. LA’s management decided to part ways with Mike Brown after a disappointing 1-4 start. The decision to let him wasn’t as surprising as its timing, considering the season is still into its beginning stages.

The Lakers had been struggling under the working of the Princeton offense. As it were, Brown was the one who advocated the use of the Pete Carril system, even hiring one of its most knowledgeable proponents in Eddie Jordan. Unfortunately, after looking disjointed on offense (turning the ball over as many as 24 times, against Portland), the team decided to go in another coaching direction.

The Lakers were scheduled to meet Phil earlier Saturday morning, to make sure that there was nothing extraneous holding him back from returning to the Lakers. Though nothing is immediately confirmed in the way of paperwork, Lakers management is very confident that the “Zen Master” will be back coaching the purple and gold.
