The Lakers hope to “make a splash” with their head coaching choice, according to Marc Stein and Ramona Shelburne from ESPN.
The Los Angeles Lakers plan on reaching out to UCONN’s Kevin Ollie and Kentucky’s John Calipari. Ironically, both of these head coaches participated in the 2014 NCAA title game.
According to FanSided.com, Kevin Ollie has “an incredible” relationship with his former teammate Kevin Durant, and could potentially help bring OKC’s superstar to the Lakers. However, Kevin Ollie and UConn’s staff are currently “thinking big” on their recruiting trail.
John Calipari is reportedly high on the Lakers wish list, but recently quoted “I wouldn’t & couldn’t leave this group.” However, former Kentucky player and current broadcaster Rex Chapman recently tweeted out that Kentucky’s head coach John Calipari was a “done deal” to take over the Lakers head coaching position.
The Lakers are also expected to interview George Karl, Byron Scott, Kurt Rambis and Jeff Van Gundy, according to Mike Bresnahan from L.A. Times.
