According to Mitch Lawrence of the New York Daily News, the Atlanta Hawks have begun showing interest in acquiring Jeff Green from the Boston Celtics. The Hawks feel that they are able to compete in a very weak Eastern Conference, but they still need another scoring threat to help out the offense. Boston has been rumored to be shopping every player on their roster except for point guard Rajon Rondo at this time.
Jeff Green has played in and started 53 games for the Boston Celtics, averaging 16.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Consistency has been an issue at some times this season, but perhaps a change of scenery would be a good move to get him back on track. Atlanta is in need of a player to come in and shoulder a large portion of the scoring load, and Green seems like a perfect fit for that.
Mitch Lawrence mentioned that the Hawks would have to give up Demarre Carroll and another piece or two to make this trade happen. The Hawks are going to be buyers at the trade deadline and the Celtics have already made it clear that they will be selling. This trade deadline is going to be one of the best that has been seen in recent history, and the Hawks are going to do their best to make at least one or two moves that will put them into an even better place to compete.
There have been rumors over the past couple of weeks that the Celtics could look to package Gerald Wallace in a trade involving Green. That could be a catch in the deal for the Hawks, who aren’t really looking to acquire another wing as well, especially with the attitude issues that Wallace has shown this season in Boston.
Overall, the Atlanta Hawks need to make some moves over the next couple weeks if they want any chance to compete in the Eastern Conference. As of right now, it appears that the East will be a two-team race between the Indiana Pacers and Miami Heat, but the Hawks have been able to compete even without the talent that they’ll need come playoff time. This is a very intriguing trade possibility that has been discussed, and could very well come to fruition as the trade deadline approaches.
