According to ESPN, the Houston Rockets are confident that they can make the moves necessary in order to sign upcoming free agent Carmelo Anthony. In order to free up enough cap space, the Rockets would have to trade Omer Asik and/or Jeremy Lin. With the NBA’s salary cap projected to rise $5 million, the Rockets have even more cap space to work with.
A trio of James Harden, Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard would be nearly impossible to defend. However, the Houston Rockets will first have to impress the New York superstar during their run in the playoffs. If they prove themselves during the 2014 playoffs, the Rockets can have a much easier time convincing Anthony to join them.
The Chicago Bulls are also another team who will have enough salary cap flexibility to bring ‘Melo aboard. Teaming Carmelo Anthony up with a healthy Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah could definitely put the Chicago Bulls at the top of the East. With LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh also entering the free agency market, anything can happen. As of today, all we can do is enjoy the playoffs and patiently wait to see where these superstar free agents will decide to take their talents.
