Trey Burke and Victor Oladipo are the top candidates to win the Rookie of the Year award, according to NBA Basketball Point Spreads.
The Utah Jazz traded for Trey Burke, who was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves with their No. 9 pick. By letting Mo Williams walk in free agency, the Jazz have made it clear that they are ready to give Burke a tremendous role with a great amount of playing time. Many compare the 6’1″ guard to Damian Lillard, because of his quick feet, and his ability to create scoring opportunities. The former University of Michigan star is also known for his ability to run the pick-and-roll. Playing for a team like Utah is great for Burke, since he will be given the opportunity to polish his game on a daily basis. Immediately stepping in as the team leader will bring a ton of experience for the rookie.
Victor Oladipo was selected by the Orlando Magic as the 2nd pick in the NBA draft. At 6’5″, the guard has solid quickness, and superb explosiveness. On the defensive end, Oladipo has sky-high potential. Playing alongside Jameer Nelson, Arron Afflalo, Tobias Harris and Nikola Vucevic will take a ton of pressure off the youngster, and will also allow him to gain some solid experience. Due to Orlando’s lack of depth, Victor Oladipo is expected to see a great amount of playing time. His offensive game is yet to be dominant, but he is clearly ready to make an impact on the defensive end, which will immediately buy him some solid minutes.
Some other rookies who are expected to compete for the Rookie of the Year award are: Anthony Bennett, Shane Larkin, Sergey Karasev, CJ McCollum, Ben McLemore, Alex Len, Kelly Olynyk, Otto Porter, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Michael Carter-Williams, and potentially Nerlens Noel if he recovers from injury.
