This summer, the Boston Celtics entered rebuilding mode after trading away Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and their coach Doc Rivers. With the core pieces of the Boston Celtics now gone, many have begun to ponder whether or not Rajon Rodno would be the next to go.
Rumors circulated throughout the summer and into the season about possible trade scenarios involving Rondo. None of these trade rumors have come close to being a reality as of yet. In the past couple of days, rumors have began to surface once more, surrounding a trade that would send Rajon Rondo to the Indiana Pacers.
Lou Ramon Aguila of Sports & Stars reports that Rajon Rondo is being linked to a potential trade involving the Indiana Pacers. The trade scenario would include Boston sending Rondo, who is coming off a recent ACL injury, to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Danny Granger, George Hill and first round pick in the loaded 2014 draft.
The Boston Celtics would be getting a solid point guard in return. George Hill is currently playing some of the best basketball of his career this season. They would also be getting Danny Granger’s expiring contract in return for Rondo, which frees up cap space for the deep 2014 free agent class. On the other hand, the Indiana Pacers would be getting a point guard with a championship pedigree in return. Many think that Rondo immediately puts them over the hump that is known as the Miami Heat.
Whether or not this trade becomes a reality remains to be seen. It makes sense for the Celtics who are in rebuilding mode. They clear up some cap space and gain another first round pick in the 2014 draft. But, with that being said, the Indiana Pacers have the best record in the league and are playing like a legitimate threat to hoist the Larry O’Brien trophy come June. George has been playing great and the Pacers have built a fantastic foundation with valuable team chemistry.
Monday afternoon, Chad Ford addressed the rumors of a possible Rondo trade to the Pacers in his weekly chat with fans. Ford states that the rumors involving Rondo and Pacers should not be taken too serious, but that if the right deal comes along it is possible the Celtics trade Rondo, just not to the Pacers. With rumors continuing to pop up regarding Rajon Rondo, whether it’s involving the Pacers or another team, NBA fans should definitely keep an eye out as we near the trade deadline.
